Roar

Roar

5.0 out of 5 stars Noble Display Of ExpressionSeptember 1, 2013

I disclose that "Roar" by Katy Perry drew my attention after my husband raved about the song after viewing it online. I listened to "Roar" with an open mind because we both like Katy Perry, just different sides of her (for me the light-hearted and happy side she exhibited in "Teenage Dream" and my husband liked the vulnerable romantic side displayed in "E.T."). "Roar" reminds me of the positive vibe reminiscent of "Firework". Once again, I completely understand that this song may mean something else. However, my interpretation of the song appears to be an empowering message of a man or woman picking themselves back up and pursuing their goals/dreams even in the face of encountering strong judgement/opposition from others and/or adversity that can sometimes arise in the game of life. As mentioned before, "Roar" is an ideal pick for someone who enjoys "Firework" and/or music tunes of empowerment.

Can't Hold Us (feat. Ray Dalton)

Can't Hold Us (feat. Ray Dalton)

5.0 out of 5 stars Theme of Unstoppable AmbitionSeptember 1, 2013

I confess that "Can't Hold Us" (feat. Ray Dalton) by Macklemore &Ryan Lewis caught my interest after a few times of listening to the song being played on the radio. Additionally, less than a few weeks ago, I attended a fair that was being held within 15 miles of where I live and heard the song played there as well. I understand that this song may carry different meanings to other people. From my humble perspective, the lyrics in "Can't Hold US" appear to be a theme of bulldozing through obstacles in life and emerging resilient. The music video embodies a valiant type of theme and the chorus featuring Ray Dalton goes perfectly with both the music tune and video. I also liked the scene where the lead singer plays the part of a hairstylist. "Can't Hold Us" (feat. Ryan Dalton) by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis is an exuberant pairing of R&B with lively beats.
Ministry of Sound: Chilled House Sessions 3

Ministry of Sound: Chilled House Sessions 3

5.0 out of 5 stars 2012 Chillout MixSeptember 1, 2013

Ministry of Sound "Chilled House Session 3" is a two disc collection of40 songs containing various artists. The love affair themed "Rapture" by Nadia Ali (Avicii New Generation Radio Edit) and the cosmic vibe of "I Keep Breathing" by Dankann Feat. Aqua Diva (Return From Paradise Vocal Mix) are some of the fantastic melodies on Ministry of Sound "Chilled House Session 3". However, there is something for many people on this two cd set and suitable for those who like hints of electronic, house, and chillout music due to the inclusion of some of the following musicians: Laidback Luke Vs. Example, Kaskade Feat. Mindy Gledhill, Deadmau 5, Avicii, Cassius, Hercules & Love Affair Feat. Shaun J Wright, Groove Armada Feat. French Soler, and Joris Voorn Feat. Moby.

Trading Places
DVD ~ Eddie Murphy

Trading Places

5.0 out of 5 stars Changed PositionsSeptember 1, 2013
"Trading Places" is a quirky and social commentary type of film that touches on the nurture versus nature debate. Two affluent, gifted, but calculating brothers (with the Duke family name) make a bet on whether a man's personality is shaped by their genes or by the socio-economic class that they are born into. The two men run a multimillion dollar corporation. Devious but shrewd plans are put into place that cause two men to unintentionally swap places (played in a superb fashion by Dan Akroyd and Eddie Murphy). I also enjoyed Jamie Lee Curtis's persuasive performance as a woman named Ophelia who is unconventionally goal oriented and ambitious despite her upbringing. "Trading Places" is a suitable film choice for those who are curious about the debate surrounding the nature versus nurture idea.

Brewster's Millions
DVD ~ Richard Pryor

Brewster's Millions

5.0 out of 5 stars Brewster's Opulent InheritanceSeptember 1, 2013

"Brewster's Millions" is a fun film starring the late Richard Pryor (See No Evil, Hear No Evil,Harlem Nights) as Monty Brewster and the late John Candy (The Great Outdoors, Delirious) as Spike Nolan. Monty Brewster has a chance to inherit over 300 million dollars from his late great uncle. However, Brewster has only 30 days to spend 30 million dollars without accumulating assets. He must also avoid telling those around him the underlying reasons for his behavior. The film hints at this difficulty shown through Spike Nolan doing what he can as a caring and true friend to help Brewster increase his financial fortune. Naturally, Nolan is shown being justifiably confused when he notices Brewster's discomfort when his income rises. The part where Brewster decides to go into politics is humorously entertaining. I also enjoyed watching "Brewster's Millions" so much that I plan to watch it again in the future because the film joyfully takes a light-hearted approach on encouraging the movie watcher to question what they would do if placed in a related situation, minus the dangerous clause of having to do so within 30 days and being able to maintain and/or increase the financial fortune for at least one lifetime. The following additional actors/actresses are also in this version of "Brewster's Millions": Lonette McKee, Stephen Collins, Jerry Orbach, Pat Hingle, Tovah Feldsuh, Hume Cronyn, Joe Grifasi, Peter Jason, David White, Rick Moranis, and Alan Autry.
