Reviews For Week of July 15 2013 Part One:

My Yelp Reviews

Target

Category: Department Stores
Neighborhood: Columbia Heights
3.0 star rating

This Columbia Heights Target had a decent and ample stocking of groceries and other merchandise. Additionally, the cashier met my request to have the groceries bagged a certain way in a quick and efficient manner. My only complaint was that the cashier could have been a little friendlier. In their defense, they may have been having a challenging day. However, a little friendliness would at least give me a feeling that customers are appreciated at this location.

This Columbia Heights UPS store does have associates who care about seeing and servicing the customers in a quick and reasonable amount of time.  The waiting time was short the day I was at this location and one of the associates seemed genuinely concerned about a notary question that was raised.

The Columbia Heights Best Buy provides a good selection of electronics and music. One does get a feeling that the workers care about the customers at this location. I was able to get good prices on music cds at this location. There are also fair prices on the computers.

This staples had a good selection of office supplies and I was able to get some notebooks at a fair and reduced price. What I also liked about the store was that the cashier Delano was friendly  and gave information on a sale that is happening during the summer.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail (Special Edition)
5.0 out of 5 starsAmusing Adventures of King Arthur And Co.
My husband introduced me to this comedic film that is "Monty Python And The Holy Grail." He has owned this dvd for over ten years now and was able to explain some of the scenes to me while allowing me to discover what happens. There are 28 scenes available in this collection and one of my favorite scenes was the humorous part where one of the knights ends up in a castle of several women that apparently want to "take care of him in their own way." "Monty Python And The Holy Grail" is great to watch for those moments when you're craving something to make you laugh.
Madonna: Goddess of Pop
5.0 out of 5 starsPart of Madonna's Life RevealedJuly 14, 2013
"Madonna: Goddess of Pop" features a condensed biographical commentary on Madonna. The men and women interviewed to tell Madonna's story explains different facets of her story in a balanced way. For instance, the documentary shares that the death of Madonna's biological mother impacted her in a big way. I also like that snippets of her musical accomplishments were covered, along with candid details on how they intersected with her personal life. However, there were two caveats that I had with this documentary. The first is that it does appear that the men and women did the best that they could in sharing Madonna's story in both an entertaining and informative light. However, a future documentary could be made stronger by at least having one of the commenters of the documentary interviewing Madonna herself. Additionally, in all fairness, the documentary did at least cover the psychological heat and public judgement that Madonna took for opening up her heart to adopt David and Mercy from Malawi in an unbiased manner. I personally believe that Madonna came from good intent because of the adverse circumstances that both children came from. Additionally, I feel that too much pre-judgement is leveled towards celebrities who adopt overseas when such judging needs to be channeled elsewhere. I am fortunate to have been adopted, but years ago I personally witnessed how my adoptive parents almost lost one family member because a biological relative attempted to re-claim custody. The court eventually sided with my adoptive parents, but I feel that there may be other couples (both celebrity and everyday people) who may be hesitant to adopt domestically due to the risk of having potential adoptees reclaimed by biological family members in the future. Aside from my personal rant, "Madonna Goddess of Pop" is a worthwhile choice for Madonna fans and/or anyone else curious about certain details of Madonna's life.

"Going Postal" is a fantasy film that is based on the novel of the same name and written by Terry Pratchett. The movie centers around a shrewd but conniving conman named Moist Lipwig who does not realize how his actions affect other people until life circumstances force him to change. Lipwig's conscience grows even more strongly when he meets and falls in love with Adora Belle Dearheart. Lipwig meets Adora Dearheart after he is given a mandatory assignment to work at the post office. Terry Pratchett plays a role in the film and the following actors/actresses are also featured in "Going Postal": Richard Coyle, David Suchet, Charles Dance,Claire Foy, Nicholas Farrell, Marnix, Broeke,Jimmy Yuill,Steve Pemberton, Andrew Sachs, Tamsin Greig, Ingrid Berdal, Adrian Schiller, Ian Bonar, Madhav Sharma, and Timothy West. The only caveat that was pointed out to me had to do with character personalities featured in the film compared to what was in the book. For instance,my husband watched the film with me out of curiosity and because he read the "Going Postal" book. He explained to me that the characters of Adora and Lipwig were actually portrayed much more self-confidently in the book than the film. Aside from that caveat, "Going Postal" is a quirky and adventurous film.

"Love Me Right" by Angel City is suitable for those who like early 2000's dance music.
Forbes (1-year)
5.0 out of 5 starsForbes HubJuly 14, 2013
I am a person of eclectic interests and I pursue information from both the Forbes website and their magazine to help keep me informed to the realities of national trends. The details included in the magazine feature both uplifting and detailed articles. For instance, the June 24, 2013 issue of Forbes magazine is a special "Money Magic" feature that covers advice from various men and women who have "made it" from the practical sense (they are labeled "Wealth Wizards" in the article). There is also the feature of two brothers who strongly have an interest in vintage airplanes. "Forbes" is a suitable magazine for those who are looking for a blend of informative and inspirational content.
