by Mary Hykel Hunt

Future Self Glimpses, December 14, 2013
Learning From The Future by Mary Hykel Hunt is a short book (102 pages) that touches on tapping into the potential probabilities that are projected into your future. My personal experience that leads me to believe in this possibility has to do with the fact that many of my dreams that made an appearance in my sleep have come and continue to do so in my waking life. I strongly believe that this is no accident and I am being shown these type of dreams in order to help me more strongly take steps to joyfully change my life (with aligned action) in the physical world. In the preface, the author makes it clear that she is focusing on ways to tune into multiple personal futures (due to one choice and/or action having a ripple effect on personal reality). Information is included such as how to know if what you are seeing is real, what to do if shown something that is different from what is initially visualized, and what to do if seeing the future is taking longer than expected (pages 46-47). There is also a listing of a select bibliography/further reading future at the end of the book (pages 101-102).

Supernatural Horror Story Of A Twisted Coven, December 14, 2013
American Horror Story: Coven caught my interest after a coworker at my job recommended this television series to me. Normally, I am not one to watch horror themed television, but I gave it a chance due to my coworker’s persuasive take on why the show is captivating. The show centers around the time periods of the 1800s and modern day as supernatural rivalries surface between witches such as the characters of Fiona Good, Myrtle Snow, Marie Laveau, and Misty Day. Despite her own hardened nature,Fiona has a daughter named Cordelia who she loves very much. Fiona and Cordelia end up becoming mentors to the young witches in training: Queenie,Zoe Benson, Madison Montgomery, and Nan. Fiona is doing her best to convince her daughter Cordelia to prepare her young protégés for the magical battles that are about to take place. Initially, Cordelia sees her mom more as a nuisance and just wants her to go away. For justified reasons, Fiona is also naturally suspicious of the motives involving her daughter’s husband. The protégés are far from shrieking violets themselves. I must refrain from explaining why for those who have yet to see the show, but the reasons for my analysis of the protégés are seen within the first four episodes. In modern day, witch Marie Laveau and Fiona Good end up having one of the most heated rivalries for certain reasons. This is what I am about to lead into. The other actors and actresses of this season contribute to the plot growth of American Horror Story: Coven in unexpected ways. However, I have to confess that my favorite characters from season 3 of American Horror Story: Coven are a tie between Jessica Lange’s Fiona Good character and Angela Bassett’s Marie Laveau character. I enjoyed Angela Bassett’s terrific portrayal as Marie Laveau because she powerfully held her own magic against forces of racism and being threatened with an old enemy. Angela Bassett’s Laveau character also has a magical gift of “summoning” what she requests to carry out her aims. Despite the sinister character nature, I also like Jessical Lange’s Fiona Good character due to the fact that she plays a woman who is not afraid to confront the evils of racism during the series and plays both a strong and resilient spirit. For instance, Lange convincingly plays a Fiona Good persona who is not afraid to tell Delphine LaLaurie that she got what was coming to her for her evil ways during the 1830’s as a blood thirsty socialite. Lange’s Fiona Good character also showed a brilliant complexity when making it clear that she will not tolerate racism and appropriately making La Laurie serve Queenie (after LaLaurie made some disparaging racial remarks to Queenie). I also saw the humanity in her when she got two of her protégés out of brief brushes with the law and came to the aid of a mother in a hospital. Last, but not least, showing the will to keep on going in life even as those around her try to indirectly drive her to suicide.
Gasoline And Matches |

Music Chemistry, December 14, 2013
Gasoline And Matches by Leann Rimes, Robb Thomas, and Jeff Beck is a fun folk country/pop/rock song that appears to be about being around someone who makes you feel alive. The vocal collaboration between Leann Rimes and Robb Thomas fits perfectly with the online music video to the song. Gasoline And Matches by Leann Rimes, Robb Thomas, and Jeff Beck is great for those who like music mashup songs that combine folk country, blues, and pop.

52 Ways to Beat Depression Naturally |
by Nicole McCance

Becoming Happier, December 14, 2013
I reluctantly confess that “52 Ways To Beat Depression Naturally” by Nicole McCance M.A., C. Psych, Assoc. caught my attention due to my own journey with healing my mild depression. I have actually been dealing with my depression since the fall of 2011 (around the time I was 31 years old), but I finally realized that I had mild depression around two months ago (around three weeks before I turned 33). I accidently came upon my discovery after unexpectedly receiving the good news of getting the job I have now. I actually felt better after becoming gainfully employed and realized that I was mildly depressed mainly from striving to find my professional/career place in life. Yes, I know that this is materialistic, but I am at least thankful to now be aware that my happiness/mild depression is mainly tied into securing my appropriate career/professional place in life. With that said, 52 Ways To Beat Depression Naturally by Nicole McCance M.A., Psych. Assoc contains among the following healing gems: Pages 33-40- Tips To Shift Negative Thinking To Positive Thinking, listening to the positive voice, and ways of distracting oneself. Exposure Therapy Journaling page 54,Letting Go of Guilt page 56, End of Day Reflection pages 64-65, Gratitude Exercise pages 70-71, physical exercise pages 102-103 and much more. “52 Ways To Beat Depression Naturally” by Nicole McCance M.A., Psych Assoc is best for those dealing with mild to sometimes moderate depression.
How to Land a Top-Paying Federal Job: Your Complete Guide to Opportunities, Internships, Resumes and Cover Letters, Networking, Interviews, Salaries, Promotions, and More! |
by Lily Whiteman

More For Those Already Employed, December 14, 2013
I cheerfully purchased How To Land A Top Paying Federal Job by Lily Madeleine Whiteman at least over eight months ago with the feeling of believing that I would eventually get selected for a federal government job from my job experience of honorably serving in the military and successfully obtaining my bachelor’s degree within 3 years and 4 months. The following are some of the good points to this book: Pages xv-xvi- myths about federal government jobs, pages 10-11: other sources of agency openings, and pages 255-260 (glossary terms). Obviously, there is more to this book, but I reluctantly give it only three stars due to the fact that this book would mostly benefit those who have an unemployment gap of a year or less. I applied for government jobs both within the D.C. area some outside of the area. The good news is that many of them responded back and let me know that I did meet the qualifications for the job posted (especially some of the jobs that related to what I did during my 8.5 years in the United States Navy). The tough news is that these same replies let me know that I qualified, but that a different applicant was chosen. My husband did his best to cheer me up by mentioning that I at least heard back from many of them because he did not hear back at all from any of the government jobs that he tried for. At the minimum reason, I must keep How To Land A Top Paying Federal Job by Lily Whitman for my husband due to the fact that he is currently unemployed and being gainfully employed would obviously help his self- esteem. |

Classic Rock/ Soft Rock Melds, December 14, 2013
I previously purchased this collection of The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac is a two disc set back in the August of 2008 as a gift for my mother in law. Truthfully, I was only taking a wild guess that she would like The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac due to previously noticing that she liked to listen to a lot of country music. Fortunately, my guess turned out to be correct and she let me know that I was correct in guessing that she would enjoy this cd. Luckily, I had the chance to eventually obtain The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac collection for myself and must say that the soft rock music goes with many of the lyrics to the songs. I personally enjoy Everywhere, Gypsy Woman, and You Make Loving Fun the most within this two cd collection. However, there are various styles of soft rock/classic rock music to appeal to various listeners on The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac.
Seether: 2002-2013 |

Adrenaline Tunes, December 14, 2013
Seether: 2002-2013 is a two disc set with 15 rock songs on the first cd and 12 rock songs on the second cd. I am familiar with some of the music from Seether due to first hearing some of their songs on the radio such as Remedy and Broken (around 2005). I also had a chance to catch a fun live performance from Seether when they opened as one of the musical acts of an exciting Nickelback concert that I attended back in April 2012. There are many satisfying songs for various rock music lovers within this collection containing superb vocals and quality guitar riffs. My personal favorites from the two disc set are: Rise Above This, Country Song, Tonight, Careless Whisper, Gasoline, and Seether.
The Wolverine |
DVD ~ Hugh Jackman |

Wolverine In Love, December 14, 2013
My husband really wanted to check out The Wolverine due to being a big fan of the Wolverine films. We checked it out together and I noticed that this good film centers around the Wolverine character (played by Hugh Jackman) striking up an expected frienship bond with an attractive but skilled fighter female and a beautiful but vulnerable woman years after saving the life of a soldier in Japan during the second World War. The Wolverine reunites with the man in Japan years later to say goodbye as he is also asked to look after his granddaughter. There is much more to this film, but I must refrain from saying more for those who haven’t yet seen the 2013 Wolverine film. However, The Wolverine is perfect for the person on your life who is a big fan of the Wolverine story (my husband greatly enjoyed the plot development and acting in this film).

Trance 100 - Best Of 2013 |

Ethereal and Blissful Club Mixes, December 21, 2013
I obtained the Trance 100-Best of 2013 at a legal steal price of $4.99 (U.S. Currency). This electronica/trance music set has 100 songs by various artists in the club/trance music sector. Paul Van Dyk, The Expedition by Armin Van Buuren & Markus Schulz, Find Me by Shogun feat. Tania Zygar, Beyond The Time by A.R.D. I,and Apache by Fisherman & Hawkins are currently among some of the many songs that I enjoy from this collection. The Wolf Of Wall Street |

Unique And Excellent Music For The Wolf of Wall Street Movie, December 21, 2013
Due to a tight personal schedule this upcoming week, I reluctantly postpone seeing the Wolf of Wall Street but plan to do so by the time it is released as a rental and/or dvd release. I say reluctantly because I actually wanted to see what looks to be a brilliant film. On the plus side, this Wolf of Wall Street soundtrack is a satisfying consolation due to the great range of musicians representing the rock and jazz music genres. Movin Out (Anthony’s Song) by Billy Joel, C’est Si Bon by Eartha Kitt, Double Dutch by Malcolm McLaren, Meth Lab Zoso Sticker by 7Horse,Mrs. Robinson by the Lemonheads, and Cast Your Fate To The Wind by Allen Touissant are some of the multiple songs from this soundtrack that caught my attention. However, there are also more enjoyable songs on this collection by various artists to like for those who like to listen to an eclectic range of music, those who listen to jazz and/or rock, and/or those who plan on seeing the upcoming release of the Wolf of Wall Street.Saving Mr. Banks DVD ~ Emma Thompson

Parental Influence, December 21, 2013
Saving Mr. Banks is a film that carefully centers around Walt Disney’s initial challenge in convincing the author of Mary Poppins (Pamela Travers) to hand over the concept of what Mary Poppins stands for. The movie includes scenes that flash back to how her viewpoints were shaped during her childhood years in Australia and the relationship with her parents. Each of the actors and actresses contributed to the shaping of the movie’s depiction that captured Walt Disney’s interactions with Pamela Travers (Both Colin Farrell and Paul Giamatti are also featured in Saving Mr. Banks). However, I admit that I enjoyed watching Emma Thompsons gifted portrayal of a woman who initially seems snobbish when it comes to her interactions with both Disney and the other cast members. However, Emma Thompson carefully puts forth great intensity (through her emotions) in helping the viewing audience understand the root reasons behind her distant nature. I also enjoyed Tom Hanks favorable impression of Disney because he used his acting skills to portray a man who tactfully found a way to help the author understand why she had reservations in sharing the book. It was also heartfelt that Hanks played a character who cared very much about keeping a past promise to his children. Both Walt Disney and the workers initially get the cold treatment by Pamela Travers. Obviously, I must refrain from sharing more to keep in mind other film goers who have yet to see Saving Mr. Banks.

2011 Ministry Of Sound Compilation, December 21, 2013
Fortunately, I had the chance to purchase Twenty Years-Ministry of Sound for just $4.95 (U.S. Currency). This collection was very much worth it to me because of the exciting assortment of dance pop and ambient/trance music songs by various artists within this collection. Soul Heaven by The Goodfellas, Believe by Ministers De-La-Funk feat. Jocelyn Brown, Dreaming of You by Thrillseekers, and Drifting Away by Lange feat. Skye are some of my favorite songs on this edition of Twenty Years-Ministry of Sound. However, there are a mix of songs for many men and woman who like a mix of past dance and club music ranging from artists such as "Fly Life" by Basement Jaxx, Everytime by Lustral, Everyday by Agnelli & Nelson, and Love Simulation by Humate. There are also classics on this collection such as On The Beach by York, Sandstorm by Darude, and Universal Nation by Push. |
